Toms River, NJ

I made it into Toms River last night and I am currently staying at the surf and stream campground. When I left Wilmington I made it to Claymont which is on the edge of DE. That night I stayed in a Burger King Parking lot. But before I got there I met Jami, Jami is a veteran who is struggling to make it in today’s world but she was really impressed on me because she has such a big heart and called me her America’s biggest hero. She has continued to stay in touch with me and I just ask everyone to keep her in their prayers.

That night before I got to the Burger King, my cart popped up underneath of me and caught the back of my ankle, it hurt a lot so I decided that I should put an ace bandage on it that I carry with me. I thought that I might have broken it so I sent out to many of my friends to pray for me. I also used ice on it that night as I was trained to do in Scouts. Well when I got up in the morning my ankle was better and I was able to walk on it pretty well (a lot better than I thought I would be able to). I am pretty sure there was a divine intervention there.

That day I did not make much for mileage but I was able to make it through Chester, PA. Where a gentleman offered that I could stay on his porch that night. I was very thankful especially after he fed me a meal that would contend with my mothers cooking (and anyone that has had my mothers cooking would know that is saying something). Well in the morning he took me up to the Benjamin Franklin Bridge. Once I Crossed the Benjamin Franklin Bridge I was officially in NJ. Which it took me less than 24 hours to get through PA. Although I have been in Pa I am not counting it yet because I did not go to a major city yet. Once I was in NJ I had a couple Police Officers warn me not to stick around Camden too long so I took their advice and kept trekking right through I had several people donate to me on several occasions going through the city. After I got through Camden I came into Maple Shade where I had a couple more officers offer me the advice to be careful a lot of places require permits to camp. So that night I was sure to stay in a motel and actually had to hike in the dark some. I had two people contact me that night one that I did not have time to talk to when he pulled up to give the “homeless guy” some help (so I had to just give him a card and say check it out), and another that just did not have time because he had been on his way to work. Both of them wanted to meet up with me and help me some more. One bought some booties for Priss the other just wanted to donate more.

Well that is how that morning started. From there I was a lot slower than normal, but without reason. Until I ran over a broken beer bottle and got a flat tire. Well while I was fixing my flat a gentleman pulled in and asked if I wanted a ride and I agreed and he brought me into Toms River, NJ and today I sent in another donation to FMSC of 443.43 making a total donation of 1133.92. If you are just joining the blog be sure to read the rest of the adventure which is below.

  2. Hi Willie,

Glad your ankle was not broken and you are continuing your adventure with out any great mis-haps. You and Priss are in my thoughts and prayers. Just a thought, but If I were you, once the committment to the FMSC gathering is met, I'd be starting south in a hurry :). A trip across the Gulf Coast would be kind of nice in the winter.
I'll let you know when I can make another contribution to FMSC so you can add it to your total, propably later this month. May God watch over you and Priss as you continue your journey

  3. Hi Willie - I met you at NPC's Wednesday night Chapel Service, and then again at the Darien Feed My Starving Children Weekend Packing Event. Your brave spirit for travel and adventure have inspired me. There are amazing people doing things in the world with God's help and you are living example my favorite mantra... "You must be the change you wish to see in the world." - by Mahatma Gandhi. Keep doing what you are doing! Best of luck. I will keep follinging your blog and telling your story!
